该部分的活动主题是“探索伟大的含义”(Explore the meaning of greatness,通过听一段三人之间的对话,引出对“伟大”与“成功”的讨论,学生将了解更多人物,并将其与对话中提到的信息匹配,然后将其伟大的原因展开讨论,发表自己的看法,树立正确的人生观和价值观。


教学目标
At the end of this section,students will be able to:
listen for general ideas and specific information and listen for reasons.
learn how to give time to think.
talk about the greatness and achievements.


教学重点
1.Listen for gist,opinions and reasons through a conversation in English about people of achievement.
2.Use the topic vocabulary learned from listening materials and the language fillers to gain some thinking time during the conversation.

State your understanding and opinions of great people .

教学过程
Step1.Warm up
Look at the pictures and talk about the people and their achievements:  
Do you know these people? Who are they? What are they?
Step2.Listening Practice
Activity1: Get ready to listen to the conversation
Match the names in Activity1 with pictures in Activity2 on page6.Then match the people with their achievements in Activity1.
Classify the people into different groups according to their professions.
Predict the preferences of the young and the elder speakers in the conversation to those great people.
Activity2: Listen for details of the conversation
1.Listen to the conversation to check the matching in Activity1.
2.Tick in the table in Activity2 to check the three speakers’
preferences.
Activity3: Listen to the conversation again for reasons.
Listen again and take notes about the reasons of each speaker’s admiration for some great people.
2.Answer the questions in Activity3 and check the answers.
(1). Why does Dr. Wang say "money isn't everything"?
(2). What is the real reason Anna admires the famous people, and what examples does she give?
(3). What kind of person do you think Wang Lin admires? Why?
Activity4: Discuss the meaning of greatness.
Discuss the definition of greatness,whether it is more of success or more of value.
Brainstorm the names of some great people and fill in the table in Activity4.
Choose a person you admire most and fill in the table below.
Try to use the following language fillers to give yourself time to think.
Eg. Yeah, I mean, I understand what you're saying …
Just a moment.
Hang on a second.
May I think about that for a moment?......
4.Work in pairs and share the reasons why you choose that person, using the language fillers in Activity5 to gain some thinking time during the conversation.The following expressions may help you:

To be great, a person should…

has invented new products...
Step3. Summary


作业布置
Write a short passage to introduce the person and the reason why you admire him/her.
